A Classic Warren Buffett Book: Security Analysis

The book Security Analysis by Benjamin Graham and David Dodd may not qualify as one of Warren Buffet Books, but the latest edition of this book does have a foreword written by Warren Buffet himself.

The foreword of Security Analysis written by Warren Buffet is a moving tribute to both Ben Graham and David Dodd and also stresses the timeless wisdom of the book as Warren still has an original version of the book in his home library which he studied while at Columbia University.

The book Security Analysis was written shortly after the 1929 crash and is a comprehensive philosophical work which emphasizes the importance of in-depth fundamental analysis of companies, keeping a long term investment view when investing, methodologies for minimizing risk and the value of resisting the crowd mentality.

While the book 'Fundamental Analysis' is a challenging read, it is well worth while reading at least once if not a number of times to truly appreciate the timeless investment lessons this timeless investment book possesses.

Security Analysis is the kind of book someone reads once but keeps for reference as the wisdom within the book will be forever invaluable to any serious stock market investor.

For anyone looking to grasp the roots of warren Buffets investment beginnings as well as add a fundamental Bible of Investing to their book collection, Security Analysis in a powerfully education Warren Buffet Book to add to your investment book collection.

Warren Buffet Books: The Snowball

This one would have to be one of my all time favourite Warren Buffet Books.

The Title says it all and is a take on the amazing affect of compounding interest, like a snowball collecting snow its grows larger exponentially, much like Warren Buffets investments.

What’s truly amazing about this book is that it is one of the very few books which Warren Buffet actually co-operated with the making of.

Most of the books that cover Warren Buffet’s investing strategies and style are written by authors who have studied Warren Buffet closely.

On the other hand this book was written with Warren Buffet’s full co-operation and endorsement and although it is a little short on specifics it is an excellent book to garner some extremely valuable investment philosophies and serves as an instructive chronicle of financial success .

Although the book is lacking in some specifics on Warren Buffets amazingly successful financial strategies the book does however paint a crystal clear image of how Warren Buffet’s mind works and his attitude and philosophies of the stock market and investing.

The book outlines the perfect psychological frame of mind conducive of highly successful stock market investing and makes a compelling read for any investor or even trader for that matter for mastering one’s inner self and thereby mastering the emotions of big stakes stock market investing.

This is a book about Warren Buffet first and foremost and provide some intriguing insights into one of the worlds most successful businessmen.

Warren Buffett’s humility, frugality and truly lovable sense of humor is wonderfully portrayed as well as Warrens apparent immunity to the drunken power, greed and lust fullness of many top CEO and executives which populate Wall Street.

To get such a detailed insight into a person who is so financially powerful yet so down to earth is an extremely rare thing.

The Snowball in my view would have to be one of the most entertaining and enlightening of all the Warren Buffett Books I have read to date and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed with this read!

For any aspiring investment maverick wishing to step into the mind of one of the most successful investors of our time, The Snowball will not disappoint.

Warren Buffet Books: The Intelligent Investor

Strictly speaking The Intelligent Investor is not a Warren Buffet Book perse’ although its an excellent book for anyone who wishes to understand and emulate Warren Buffet’s investment style.

The Intelligent Investor is one of the first books I bought when I started on my quest of Buffetology in order to understand how Warren Buffet developed his near perfect investing strategy.

If this book will make your Warren Buffet Books purchasing shortlist will depend on how much prior knowledge you have of investing and finance.

If you are completely new to investing and investment strategies then this book may be better left for a later purchase as the book uses very strong investor type language as well as assuming a well rounded knowledge of financial terms, products and economic factors.

Just the same if you have read a number of Warren Buffet Books or you have a burning interest and well rounded knowledge of finance and investment terms, strategies and mathematical formulas, then The Intelligent Investor is an excellent book to learn ‘how’ Warren Buffet developed his billion dollar investment strategy based on value investing.

Some Subjects Covered in ‘The Intelligent Investor’

  • Inflation
  • Defensive Investing
  • Market Fluctuations
  • Investment funds
  • Simplified Security Analysis
  • Thoughts on Earnings per Shares
  • Company Comparisons
  • Stock Selections
  • Dividends
  • Margin of Safety Concept

Overall The Intelligent Investor espouses no groundbreaking secrets in successful stockmarket investing but rather is a highly valuable read to enforce the concept of Common Sense Investing through valuing investment wisdom and taking a longer term investment view.
